Abstract

Purpose: Academic social networking sites help researchers to maintain and develop professional relationship with peers, keep themselves up-to-date in their field of study and identify latest research trends. The study explores the awareness, usage and benefits of Academic Social Networking Sites (ASNSs) among the LIS scholars of universities of North-East India. Methodology: Survey method had been adopted for the present study. An online questionnaire was designed in Google Forms and sent to 150 LIS scholars of universities of North-East India. Findings: The study reveals that LIS scholars are aware about ASNSs. ResearchGate was found to be the most commonly used ASNSs followed by Academia.edu. To keep themselves up-to-date and finding announcement regarding conferences/seminars/workshops were the two major purposes of using ASNSs. The major problem indicated by the respondents was poor internet connectivity.
