Abstract

Background:The rapid advances in Information Technology have great impact on all sections of library including its operations as well as services. It has revolutionized the modes of accessing and disseminating information through Internet and World Wide Web. The PGIMER library is also not remaining untouched of its impact. It has transformed the library to modern Hi-Tech library with all its automated operations, e-services and online collections of e-resources. E-resources are very beneficial because of easy and quick access. Moreover, it can be accessed without any restriction to place and time. E-resources are very common in all research libraries but their maximum use and management is a matter of concern today.

Objective: To study how e-resources are being managed in PGIMER library and what are the problems being faced for managing these resources?

Methods: A descriptive method has been used to study the steps involved and challenges faced by the library staff in managing the e-resources at PGIMER library.

Conclusion: The study shows that majority of faculty, residents and research scholars of PGIMER library are dependent on e-resources as primary sources of information retrieval. The PGIMER library is trying every possible method to fulfill the need of its end-users by acquiring various methods to shoot out the problems faced during management of e-resources like finance, time coverage, infrastructure etc.
