Indexing in Electronic Environment

Responding to user needs is changing in current fast information scenario. When we come to indexing of documents/information sources, it is found out that in this electronic environment the indexing function/services have been more sophisticated and complicated. The present article deals with indexing in electronic environment: It discusses the indexing of electronic documents and electronic information sources/resources and indexing of conventional documents with the help of electronic methods and tools. Database indexing, Internet and web indexing have been highlighted. E-methods and tools for indexing are given. The paper highlights few companies working in this field. While discussing software for indexing, it suggests many important aspects and points to keep in mind. Concludes with the idea of better indexing services for the staff and the user.Downloads
