The paper considers briefly some of the factors that influence the formation of concepts and concept terms, some problems in constructing mono-lingual and multi-lingual glossaries, and some general guiding principles for developing technical terminology mostly formulated by S.R. Ranganathan and his associate researchers in the 1940s and used in the preparation of glossaries of terms in library science (LIS) in English and other languages of India. Issues relating to borrowing terms from other languages are mentioned. The advantages of classified arrangement of terms in a glossary and steps in the preparation of a glossary of terms are discussed with examples.Downloads
