Information Resources in the Environmental Sciences in the Federal Government

Abstract

Most Federal Government Agencies are concerned with environmental issues. Several such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Department of Interior, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA) within the Department of Commerce, the Energy Research and Development Agency (ERDA) and the Department of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW) have specific environmental missions and have developed information systems to support these missions. The major information systems such as the Water Resources Scientific Information Center (Interior); EPA's NOISE Air Pollution Technical Information Center, Pesticides Information Center and Solid Waste Information Retrieval Systems; the National Library of Medicine's Toxline; and the bibliographic portions of NOAA's OASIS system, provides access to environmental literature through published indexes SDI services and computerized retrieval.
