The introduction of the computer sytems, and consequent adoption of automated means have considerably improved the growth and the use of book database of the Central Library at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. Need was increasingly felt to monitor serial control using computer system. The authors assumed responsibility to develop a database of the holdings of the journals. This paper describes the experience gained while designing and preparing back-volume database in electronic fonnat. This database is available on campus LAN and worldwide through ERNET.Downloads
