Abstract

The development of scientific approach to classification and cataloguing were initiated by S. R. Ranganathan. He provided a theoretical framework for the development of these intensely practical techniques in library science. Such theoretical framework in the form of a hierarchy of normative principles are capable of guiding the contextual situations arising out of the new developments in the field of library and information services.
