Marketing of Information Products and Services of the National Information Centre for Food Science and Technology (NICFOS)- A Case Study

Proliferation of information, particularly in Science and Technology, has given rise to difficulty in accessibility to the user atthe righttime. Unprecedented increase in the cost of information products and services has made it almost impossibl.e for the user to have access to information sources. In such a situation ths result could be disastrous and may impair the application of technological innovations for development, especially in developing countries.
The National Information Centre for Food Science and Technology (NICFOS) at the Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore, has been rendering information services and generating various information products, over the last two decades to meet the specific information needs of users in R&D institutions, industry, government departments and others in the area of Food Science and Technology and allied areas at an affordable price. The efforts made and the experience gained by the Centre in popularisation of these products and in extending the services along with the results achieved so far are presented in this paper.
